Tropical Storm Humberto

As if Texas hasn't had enough rain this summer, we now have to be on alert for Humberto.

"AT 400 PM CDT...2100Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM HUMBERTO WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 28.6 NORTH...LONGITUDE 94.9 WEST OR ABOUT 50MILES... 80 KM...SOUTH OF GALVESTON TEXAS.

HUMBERTO IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 7 MPH...11 KM/HR.

A TURN TO THE NORTH-NORTHEAST WITH A GRADUAL INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF HUMBERTO SHOULD BE CROSSING THE UPPER TEXAS COAST WITHIN THE WARNING AREA IN THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 50 MPH...85 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS EXPECTED PRIOR TO LANDFALL.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES...95 KM FROM THE CENTER.

THE LATEST MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE REPORTED BY AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT WAS 999 MB...29.50 INCHES.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE TRACK OF HUMBERTO THROUGH EASTERN TEXAS AS WELL AS WESTERN AND CENTRAL LOUISIANA...WITH ISOLATED MAXIMUM ACCUMULATIONS OF 15 INCHES POSSIBLE."

One things is for sure. Wifey and I will be home in time to batten down the hatches and get prepared. We have a survival kit and we will be getting the important paperwork gathered and into the watertight box. Everything will be ready as it always is during hurricane season.

And what will I be doing after we have everything taken care of? Knitting of course. I have approximately 20 rows left to finish the SITM second sock. I will also be working on one of the afghans listed in the UFO KAL. It is crochet and I can do it quickly. If, for some reason, there is a power failure, I can continue to work on a few more items from the UFO KAL until there is daylight or power restored.

Not to fret. If you have lived in Houston for more than ten years, you too have prepared for a hurricane and know all the steps. We will be fine and I will report back some time tomorrow.

UPDATE: Hurricane Humberto decided to visit High Island and Winnie. Houston was spared, so today will be just another "normal" Thursday. We will watch the reports when daylight hours show the damages and help with donations if they are needed.

good luck! we don't get the effects of hurricanes often, but when they do arrive this far north - its quite a shock!

Glad you were passed over by Humberto. Just and FYI - I added a few of my favorite recipes with links to my sidebar. I'll do a post soon of all the others that don't have links, I just have to get them typed up.

I am pleased to know that you are ok and I hope that Humberto hasn't caused too much damaged. Take care of yourself and Wifey. x
