I spent Christmas Eve this year with Stephanie, Jack, Zoe and Megan.....plus a few of the Huntsville family friends. This included Jack's brother Bob, his fiance and their dad, TJ. It was a blast and the food was AWESOME. Stephanie made the most AMAZING chicken and dumplings. There was food every where you looked. I experienced Kracken Rum! It was wonderful! Okay, so I have been posting today and I feel like it is time to "spill the beans", so to speak. Since June of 2008 my life has been very different than it has ever been. Much of this change was needed and I know this. Many other facets of it were just part of the way that the journey unfolded.

You all know that Megan graduated from SFASU on Mother's Day of 2008 and I couldn't have been prouder. What you don't know is that my life was headed in directions I couldn't control. I spent a year in an efficiency apartment living alone for the first time in my entire life. I learned a great deal about myself in that year. I learned what I liked and what I expected. I also learned how to love myself in spite of myself. These are all lessons that most people learn when they are in college. Late to learn them, but I forged on ahead.

It was during this self-discovery that I met SF. She needs a new name, as our relationship has passed the Special Friend place in both our lives. Alas, I haven't stumbled upon a name that will suffice. What started off as an attempt for both of us to make a new friend has led to a relationship that is strong, passionate and full-filling. But I jump too far ahead. It was during this year of solitude that I learned what a friend was and let that help me make more of them.

I let the friendships expose me to new experiences and let them enrich my life. I wanted more and felt like a sponge. I was still conservative but I suppose in some way I always will be. I like things to have a certain order and I don't really like unexpected surprises. I like surprises for gifts but that would be the exception. I like order and prefer not too much gray area. I let myself drop my guard and let people get close to me. That is hard, as I don't always trust people. I also learned the art of compromising. I also had the opportunity to teach people things I know. That is a big source of joy for me too.

Along the way I also changed jobs. I was excited and then after four months that was shattered when I was laid off. I spent the next year working every temp job that I could get. I worked in various industries and for good rates. I had no benefits and no guarantee that I would be there another week. It was a gut check and was VERY stressful on me as well as on our new relationship. It was on one such assignment that I had a three hour long interview. Not just one, but there were several. This company wanted me and we were just trying to determine the best fit with the openings available. I started on June 20th of this year and it has been a blessing. I'll leave it at that. There has been a lot of adjustments at home. I work long hours and the commute is 72 miles round trip daily. It takes a toll, especially when the traffic is bad.

I also had to put Eraser down on Good Friday and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I miss her daily and cannot explain it. Add to this the fact that SF has had two pre-cancerous growths removed from each ankle, a torn rotator cuff and the surgery necessary to repair it and her left foot has been reconstructed. All of this since I started the new job. She also has to have her right foot reconstructed next Wednesday. This has meant that I have been the sole person responsible for all household work. I have had to be the one that does all the interior cleaning. I have been the "pool girl". I have been the yard crew, mostly making sure that the weeds are kept in check and that the yard is watered (the back has no sprinkler system built in). I have had to be the sole source of labor on top of all the rest of my responsibilities. Now, before you think I am complaining, I am not. I am just filling in the gaps of time to account for my lack of activity.

It has been a time period that has led me to have self-doubt and the desire to retreat back into my shell. SF has held me accountable and has kept me engaged. She has been painfully aware that I have been close to sever depression but has managed to keep me from falling over the edge. It has been difficult to say the least. I also managed to gain back all of the weight I had lost while I was training for the half marathon. That devastated me. I no longer felt confident and no longer felt that I had any sex appeal. I am pleased to announce that I have lost 19 pounds but I still have about that same amount left to feel comfortable. That will also put me in a 12 which has been a goal of mine for a while. I have been seeing a PhD to get some focus and guidance. She has me reading a book called Stress Free for Good, and I think I can actually put most of the lesson into practice in my own life. I already see a difference and I have only read five chapters.

Slowly I have begun to right the ship and get to a place where I want to be engaged in life again. My knitting has picked back up and I am anxious to get some old UFOs done. I am also getting the urge to get a new sewing machine and get to sewing. I want to make things for Zoe and for the house. I am spending time with Stephanie and Megan and enjoying my relationship with them. I am slowly getting to a place where I want to be at home and the nurturing part of me has returned. I don't want to be SF's mother, I want to be her partner and care for her like I know I can. Life lessons can be hard and demanding but if you listen, they do teach you how to live.

SF and I have recently exchanged rings for our left hands. Not wedding rings but rings that take our relationship to the next level. I am still "gun shy" from my last two relationships but it is fading faster. We have been having more open and honest communication and making certain that both of us are allowing ourselves the time to decompress each evening while still including each other in the process. She has expressed her anxiety with not being able to help me with daily activities and has apologized many times over for the series of events that have side-lined her. We have grown stronger through all of this and I have no doubt that the love we share will continue to grow stronger as long as we remember how much we love each other.

Other things have happened too. Sassy has begun a transformation as well. She was always afraid of Eraser and hid most of the time. No longer is this true. She is vocal and is out more than she is hidden. She has become a lap cat as well. It is very amusing. She loves to get on the chair beside me (right side) and lay there. If I am not paying attention to her, she will climb in the middle of my lap. It is amazing. She has also added three ounces since May 1st. That may not sound like a lot but trust me, it is. She is no longer skittish and looks beautiful. At times I think I want a second cat but then I am reminded that I still don't know Sassy and owe the development of that relationship all the time it needs.

Life may not be perfect but this one is perfect for me.....

So, I know I have been MIA for a while. More about that in a different post. I wanted to showcase a few FO's that have actually been done for a while. The first two are of the Holden Shawlette that I made for a swap. I had dyed the yarn at Upstairs Studio and it seemed perfect for the swap. The third picture is a crochet gift bag for the same swap. My attention span was at an all time low, so the next few pictures are of three scarves that I worked on. they were mostly mindless and I needed that. The first and second ones are for gifts. The last one is for me. I made it with yarn from a Valentine's swap. It is from Wales and I love the colors. I didn't realize that there was a MAJOR color difference with the skeins until after I was finished. It is literally two different scarves but that is what makes it so unique. I have also finished the Red Hot and am a third of the way finished with a baby blanket for my Niece's second son. Not bad considering what my last year has been like.

Ok, so as you can see I was busy yesterday decorating the house. I carefully brought all 15 storage containers down from the top floor of the garage and set everything up. Then, I took all 15 containers back to their places upstairs. Why? Well, I had special motivation. SF has been side-lined since June and I knew that while she was in TN for a week I had the perfect opportunity to get this done without her feeling obligated to try and help or feel guilty for not being able to help. Regardless of how you look at it, I managed to get the entire house decorated. I have a few more things I would like to get done before she returns but I have the majority of it completed. I still need to get to the store for some AA batteries for all of the decorations that need them....all of the stuffed toys you see in the last picture need them to "do" their respective jobs. We have a collection of Santas and they run the gambit of themes. We also have a varied theme of anything goes since we have the nautical and beach themes in the house year-round. Enjoy a slice of the decorations....

General Catching Up

No, I have not fallen off the face of the Earth, at least not yet. There have been too many things going on so I am attempting to get caught up. Some of this has been goon and some has been a set back of sorts so bear with me.

I have a new job and I am LOVING it. For those of you who didn't know, and there was a reason why I kept it private, I had been without a full-time job since April 2010. This had been a huge strain on me and on the relationship that was developing with SF. She was supportive through all of the temporary positions and all of the interviews and rejections. The new job is awesome even if the drive is a bit grueling. It is 36 miles one way and thus, 72 round trip. Thankfully I have a serious collection of music on the three iPods that I can rely on.

As I was adjusting to the commute and the hours, I lost time with the PC at home in the evenings so I am woefully behind on blogs and Ravelry but I am trying to get caught up. So, if you get comments from me on really old posts just smile and remember that I am playing catch up.

I have been hitting the gym HARD again and I am seeing results as well. I am down ten (10) full pounds in a month and I am almost back into the 14's. It feels great and my self-confidence is hitting stride again. So much so that I am wearing red lipstick again. It took a week to get used to the sight, as you simply cannot hide red lips. But the confidence that red lips bring cannot be topped. I also chopped off the hair in a modified pixie and I love it. It is totally wash and wear and is super sassy.

The knitting mojo is coming back and there will be some pictures coming soon. many of the projects have been for swaps, so I cannot share them just yet....patience.....

I only have one more thing to add. Please say a prayer for my mom. She had been cancer free for five years until the Memorial Day weekend. She broke T11 in a weird accident and when they went in to repair the vertebrae the surgeon noticed that there was a spot on the spine in that same bone. He took a biopsy and the Breast Cancer had metastasized in the same bone. It is Stage One, so they caught it early. She has had two different PET scans and there is no evidence of the cancer anyplace else so they can begin a highly aggressive spot radiation treatment on that are within the next two weeks. I know that my dad and the rest of my family could use extra prayers for my mom, so thank you in advance.

Dye Day - Part Three

I had an awesome time back in June when Lizzy held a third dye day at Upstairs Studio. Picture number one is an interesting test. I selected some wonderful fuchsia cotton yarn and wanted to test what the indigo dye pot would do with it. The picture doesn't do the richness of the color justice. I am trying to see what it wants to be....

Picture number two is wonderful Cascade 220 Superwash Merino that I used Wilton Cake Dye on. I have no clue what it will be when it grows up....any ideas?

Picture number three is a secret project at the moment....I used Wilton's on this one as well and the colors were chosen for a specific person....I can tell you that it looks wonderful as it works up for the shawlette I am making.....I promise to share more about it when it is finished an in the hands of the person it will be for....

Gas Mileage Myths....true facts folks!

It takes more fuel to start a vehicle than it does to let it idle.

People are really confused about this one, and will leave a car idling for half an hour rather than turn it off and restart. Some kids I know started an anti-idling campaign in the suburbs and are shaming parents into shutting down their cars. Idling uses a quarter to a half gallon of fuel in an hour (costing you one to two cents a minute). Unless you're stalled in traffic, turn off the car when stopped for more than a few minutes.

Vehicles need to be warmed up before they're driven.

Pshaw. That is a long-outdated notion. Today's cars are fine being driven off seconds after they're started.

As a vehicle ages, its fuel economy decreases significantly.

Not true. As long as it's maintained, a 10- or 15-year-old car should have like-new mileage. The key thing is maintenance: An out-of-tune car will definitely start to decline mileage-wise.

Replacing your air filter helps your car run efficiently.

Another outdated claim, dating back to the pre-1976 carburetor days. Fuel-injection engines don't get economy benefits from a clean air filter.

Aftermarket additives and devices can dramatically improve your fuel economy.

As readers of my story on The Blade recall, there's not much evidence that these "miracle products" do much more than drain your wallet. Both the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Reports have weighed in on this. There are no top-secret 100-mpg bolt-ons out there.

Using premium fuel improves fuel economy.

You might as well write a check to BP if you believe this. Only use premium if your car specifies it.

Nightfall Multnomah

Last one for the day, I promise. This is the Nightfall Multnomah (Ravelry link). The yarn was a gift in the All Things Local Swap from May of 2010. I knew the minute I saw the yarn that it wanted to be a shawl and when I saw the pattern I was certain that they were perfect for each other.

I won't go into much detail here, but I didn't like this pattern. There were some math errors that forced me to do WAY to much thinking and I was still in need of mindless knitting. This was the last piece that I was able to work on before I put Eraser down. My stress level was really high from the decision process and the ache that it caused and I could never find the strength to pick up the sticks and string. I did pick up the crochet hook but that is another post all in itself.

Amy Made Me Drop These Stitches

This is the Drop Stitch Scarf pattern (Ravelry link). Another fairly mindless pattern with GREAT results. Again, this was yarn from Amy. She had sent it to me in a birthday package shortly after I had moved in with SF. This one did take me three days to make. This was also my first time to work with Manos. Man oh man, what was I waiting for?

Can you see a theme in the last three FO's? Yes, I needed instant gratification and these last three fit that need to a "T".

Birthday Cowl

This is the Birthday Cowl. Let me tell you I was in love with this one and I was totally enjoying the yarn too. I had received a skein of the Malabrigo Merino Worsted in the color Burgundy - 41 in the Have A Cuppa Swap package. I had never worked with Malabrigo and now that I have I am TOTALLY hooked.

My mojo for knitting was in jeopardy when I grabbed the skein, wound it into a cake and cast on before I had a chance to change my mind. I think it too long to make but I was side-tracked with quite a few personal hurdles that sent me into tailspins often.

I would also suggest that if you love a good cowl that you should seriously consider this pattern. It is well written and looks great. And you can bet that there will be more Malabrigo in my future!

Cheshire Cat Scarf

Okay, so one of my entries in the planner was to post about my FO's, so here is one. This is the One Row Handspun Scarf by the Yarn Harlot herself. The handspun was a Pay-It-Forward Handmade gift from my dear friend Amy.

I was touched when it arrived and I watched it as it began to speak to me about what it wanted to transform into. I knew it looked like a scarf but I wanted one that would showcase the handspun correctly. I must admit that the Harlot was correct. My one regret is that I made it larger than she suggested and when it was soaked and blocked it is wide and short. That's okay in the long run, as I can wrap it around myself and tuck it into my coat better.

I took this with me when SF and I went to Knoxville and I was making great progress on it since SF is a capable driver and I actually was able to be the passenger for the first time without worrying about anything. Such a treat to trust the one you are with and let yourself go and enjoy the landscape, the music and the company. If you want an easy pattern AND you have some handspun to work with I highly recommend the pattern. I am going to use the pattern to make a baby blanket because it will make a great blanket and looks great on either side.

April Goals....

Well, today is May Day, or better known as May 1st. In a way, I am glad that April is done. It was a hard month and a real roller coaster of emotions for me. I hinted that I would post April goals way back in this post, but obviously I never did follow through.

April was filled with projects but most of them were not ones I should have been working on. I did manage to start and finish the Multnomah. For the record, I hated this pattern. It was full of errors and omissions and that does not make for mindless knitting. Which this pattern should have been due to all the garter stitch and the feather and fan repeats. I loved the finished object but more than once I was tempted to frog and rip. A photo shoot, more like a parade of FO's will appear this week.

I made myself a scarf from some beautiful Manos that Amy had send to me as a birthday present. I also make a beautiful cowl from some Malibrigo that Amy had sent me as well. I did finish sock one of the March socks and cast on sock two but they are still just staring at me. I didn't have the energy to work with little needles and small yarn but I may be able to tackle them again now that things are returning to normal.

There are a few others that I may add after I think about them. I have been working on doing more things for myself lately (pamper wise) and I have been doing well on the mani/pedi portion. I really want to pick a signature lip color and stick with it, so I'll keep you posted.

Eraser should be home on Friday and I am ready. I miss her so much and I want to thank all of you for you kind words and thoughts. I had forgotten how much she had wormed her way into my heart. I have found some pictures of her as a kitten and I will be posting one last tribute to her.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful Sunday and start your week off on a positive note. I'll be fixing healthy dinners for SF and myself. I need to share some of the treats I have been fixing. They are low cal and yet packed with flavor.

My To Do List for the week will include a post on some of the recipes, the pictures/details of the FO's, the tribute to Eraser and a sneak peak at the crochet work for the Realta....it is stash busting of some ancient acrylic (Red Heart/Lion Brand/Caron) so don't stick your tongues out. I am making it for Zoe. Stephanie will be able to toss it into the washer and dryer and move on. I'll make an afghan for SF and I with some Cascade 220 later in the year...

Day seven: 3rd April. Your knitting and crochet time.

Write about your typical crafting time. When it is that you are likely to craft – alone or in more social environments, when watching TV or whilst taking bus journeys. What items do you like to surround yourself with whilst you twirl your hook like a majorette’s baton or work those needles like a skilled set of samurai swords. Do you always have snacks to hand, or are you a strictly ‘no crumbs near my yarn!’ kind of knitter.

This one really amused me for some odd reason. I don't think I have a typical time. Knitting has been a part of my life for so long that it is just an extension of me. I have knitting with me at all times. A project at work, one that I grab when ever I get in the car. And then the ones that are on the end table in the living room and in my project bag.

At any given moment there are at least five active projects just to cover all the spaces that need one. I almost always have socks on needles and a shawl or shawlette. The rest range on what "bug" has bitten me at that given moment. Sometimes the bug is caused by a yarn that comes in a swap.

Case in point, the Cheshire Cat scarf and now the Multnomah that I cast on Thursday while at USS with Jordan and Clarice. The Cheshire Cat scarf was my go to project when SF and I went to Knoxville. I wanted to showcase the beautiful yarn that Amy had made for me and the scarf was the answer. I can't wait to wear it. The Multnomah was the same. I knew as soon as I received the yarn in the swap that I wanted to make a shawl/shawlette with it.

I take knitting with me when I go to the Hobbit to see Megan, so I do knit with food and drink near me. There are several of the staff there that knit and they are all new knitters. They have lots of questions and I find myself bringing some standby Red Heart to show them how to do something when they ask. They all love the projects I bring and they love it when Megan wears something I made.

When I am at home, I typically knit in the same spot on the couch with SF while we watch sports. I will admit that I don't usually work on anything too complicated for some sporting events because I know that just watching the event will cause me enough stress. SF is amazed that I can knit and watch TV at the same time. I just smile and keep going.

March Goals - Progress Update

And what about the goals for March?

These were the goals that I laid out:

I have the March Sock of the Month underway. It is not as far as it should be but that will be corrected this weekend since we will be watching the ladies SEC Tournament.

I will be completing the "Birthday Cowl" with the Malabrigo I received from Heather in the Have a Cuppa Swap package.

I have also put a real focus on getting all the WIP's in my queue completed so that I can feel better about wanting to start new projects.

Non-knitting I want to get back to reading more nightly before bed. That could be a challenge with March madness upon us but I will see what happens.

I also want to shed the last few winter pounds and get back to a more concentrated workout mode to get to that size 12 that has eluded me for the last year.

So, how did I do?

The March socks are taking FOREVER. I think that is due to the US Size 0 needles. I am almost done with sock one and will cast on sock two this weekend.

The "Birthday Cowl" was finished in record time. I am now officially hooked on Malabrigo....

The WIP's in the queue....I had good intentions but taking care of Ambre for two weeks took a lot of my time. She had whipp worms and needed meds every four hours just like taking care of a newborn baby. I lost a lot of sleep and knitting time. I managed to get one project in the queue finished and I am working on two others.

Reading before bed did not happen either. Mostly due to Ambre. I wasn't able to keep my eyes open so reading was not an option. I hope that after this week (last week of NCAA basketball for both the men and ladies) that I can focus on this goal more.

The weight loss was challenged by Ambre as well, since I had no energy or time to get to the gym. That too become a top priority for April.

I'll post actual April goals later this weekend!

Day six: 2nd April. Something to aspire to.

Is there a pattern or skill that you don’t yet feel ready to tackle but which you hope to (or think you can only dream of) tackling in the future, near or distant? Is there a skill or project that makes your mind boggle at the sheer time, dedication and mastery of the craft? Maybe the skill or pattern is one that you don’t even personally want to make but can stand back and admire those that do. Maybe it is something you think you will never be bothered to actually make bu can admire the result of those that have.

This was an interesting topic. I had already made a list on paper some time ago of things I wanted to try that for whatever reason I had avoided in the past 37 years of knitting. Some are more patterns but there are a few techniques.

I really want to try entrelac. I have no real idea as to why I have never done it before but it really is starting to creep into my field of vision. I'll probably start with a simple scarf (thanks to Jordan) but I saw a beret/tam that just screams for me to make it.

I also want to take a colorwork class. I know how to work in colorwork but my tensions are all wrong and I cannot use both hands to hold the threads. I think that once I take the class I will feel more comfortable with more projects.

I also want to make one of EZ's patterns. I have had a few of them in my queue for an eternity. The BSJ always looks so wonderful when I see them finished. There is one at USS that I love and I pick it up every time I am there.

The biggie for me is learning to steek. I am PETRIFIED of knitting a garment and then cutting it on purpose. That seems as foreign as dropping a stitch on purpose (in the Clapotis) was.

Day Five: Wildcard – Embellish the story

Embellishments come in all types and forms. Some are more than purely decorative and form a practical function – pretty buttons are as much part of holding a garment together as mere decoration, and some are just there to give a piece an extra ‘something’. Blog about an embellishment, be it a zipper, amigurumi eyes or applique patch which you are either saving to use or have in the past used to decorate a project with. Write about whether you are a very minimalist kind of knitter with classic lines and timeless plain knits or whether you love all the bells and whistles or sticking sewing and otherwise attaching decoration to your pieces.

This was the first item that I made for Zoe. It is the Five Hour Baby Sweater. There are some minor pattern "issues" but it really does take right at five hours. I used Knit Picks Shine Worsted in the Wave colorway. Stephanie did not want "traditional" baby colors so I loved how this was soft but not a real baby color. I wanted the sweater to be simple and elegant, especially after we learned that the baby was indeed a girl.

When I was finished I knew that an i-cord was not what I wanted to use for the neck. It laid about for a while when I remembered that I had a beautiful black ribbon from a gift that SWCNLBN had given me from Victoria's Secret gift a few years back. I located the ribbon and when I finished threading it through I was very excited about how it looked.

Now when I get ribbons, I carefully wind them on a spool and save them for future projects. You just never knwo when taht might be the best accessory to finish a project.

Day Four: 31st March. Where are they now?

Whatever happened to your __________?

Write about the fate of a past knitting project. Whether it be something that you crocheted or knitted for yourself or to give to another person. An item that lives with you or something which you sent off to charity.

There are a lot of different aspects to look at when looking back at a knitting project and it can make for interesting blogging, as much of the time we blog about items recently completed, new and freshly completed. It is not so often that we look back at what has happened to these items after they have been around for a while.

How has one of your past knits lived up to wear. Maybe an item has become lost. Maybe you spent weeks knitting your giant-footed dad a pair of socks in bright pink and green stripes which he then ‘lost’. If you have knit items to donate to a good cause, you could reflect on the was in which you hope that item is still doing good for it’s owner or the cause it was made to support.

This is a fun topic. I have made more things that never made it to Ravelry simply due to the fact that I have been knitting a lot longer than the site has been around. I have made dozens of blankets and I love giving them as much as I did making them.

In my 20's I made my then husband and my brother knitted vests. I know that my brother wore his well into the 90's. It was a lovely basic vee neck done up in a tan color. I got the pattern from a Leisure Arts book that I bought at Lee Wards in Memorial City Mall. Part of me wants to drag out the booklet again and make some updated versions with the newer yarns. Good thing I like men's sweater vests too, as my dad and brother are the only two I know would wear them. I have another brother, but he is not the sewater vest kind of man....

For myself, I am most pleased with my Saraha. I finished it in this post. I stopped wearing it shortly after it was complered, as I was too heavy to wear it properly. As I began to get back into shape and my new lifestyle, I started wearing it more often. I love to wear it with white shorts in the summer to the Mucky Duck. It is dressy enough but not too much. I will be making a new version this year and I expect that I will get as much wear from it as I do the first one.

Day Three: 30th March. Tidy mind, tidy stitches

Today's topic: How do you keep your yarn wrangling organised? It seems like an easy to answer question at first, but in fact organisation exists on many levels. Maybe you are truly not organised at all, in which case I am personally daring you to try and photograph your stash in whatever locations you can find the individual skeins. However, if you are organised, blog about an aspect of that organisation process, whether that be a particularly neat and tidy knitting bag, a decorative display of your crochet hooks, your organised stash or your project and stash pages on Ravelry.

So, this is only part of my stash. This is the sock yarn portion. I have several totes that have other yarns and WIP's/UFO's. I know that I have pictures of the rest of the stash on the blog but I am far too lazy today to look for them....

I keep most of the yarn "hidden" from Sassy. She is a HUGE deterrent to knitting. She will lay on the entire project when necessary. See exhibit One:

I have a small stash in my Martha Washington cabinet, which also houses all of my needles and tools that are not in my knitting bag. Most of the stash in the living room has already been wound into cakes because Sassy won't bother them as much for some odd reason...

My goal for the year is to knit from the stash, so it will be interesting to see how these pictures change by the end of December....

Second Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week

I participated in this last year and really enjoyed it. Even though I am a day behind, I will make up for it all in this post!

Day One: 28th March. A Tale of Two Yarns.

As many of you know if you follow the blog at all, I love swaps. One of the best reasons is the yarn that always is a key component of the package. Many of my spoilers have sent me yarns that are "native" to their country or from a local Indie crafter. Some have sent me commercially manufactured yarns as well. This post is designed to speak to a yarn that I love and then to one that I loathe. Since the Indie ones are not mass produced, I will just tell you that there have been many that I ahve raved about and wish I could get more; however several of them are one of a kind hanks and I love that aspect so I will not venture to brag about them.

Loathe is a bit strong, so I'll simply say that the Twin Twist by Wool In The Woods was not one of my favorites. I know that it is no longer in production and that may be bad news for those that love it. The colors of the skein were vibrant and I loved the name, Gem Jubilee. Overall, I just wanted the project to be over so I didn't have to work with it any longer than necessary. For those of you that know who you are, Noro is actually the one yarn that I do loathe and despise. It feels like sandpaper to me. Disclaimer, that is simply my opinion.

Conversely, one of my all time favorites is ShiBui Sock Yarn. It is scrumptious! I used it to make my Clapotis and the leftovers were transformed into a Calais for Megan. I have acquired additional skeins from Twisted Yarns for a yet to be determined project and I have my eyes set on some additional skeins in colorways that yearn to become a cardigan. If you have not tried this yarn, you really should do so....even if you use it for something other than socks, I think you'll agree.

Day Two: 29th March. Skill + 1UP

I am directed to look back over where I was last year at this exact time and compare what I know and have accomplished against now to see progression. What I can tell you is that I finished some VERY old UFO's last year, one that even won me a prize.

I took on lace using sock yarns at first and then I moved to the Xie from SWTC which is bamboo thread. I liked lace so much that I attempted to do the Ten in 2010 Challenge. I fell short by three. I have the Eleven in 2011 Challenge active but I am not sure if I will actually commit to it since it is March and I am doing the self imposed sock of the month club. I also focused on knitting for myself last year and have carried it forward into this year. I am also working from the stash this year and enjoying that as well.

As for techniques, I still have a few that I want to attempt but I am not letting that slow me down. I'll get to them when I get to them and that suits me just fine. I did attempt to learn how to use a drop spindle and I may return to it in the Fall but for now it is in time out. And that is all we are going to say about it for now.

So, I am now current and will post the next installment Wednesday!

1. Why does it need to be so difficult to get some people to understand Power User is a giant leap above a Normal User.

2. SF and me insist that each of us is equal to the other to insure that we are a complete unit.

3. My favorite breakfast includes a mini bagel with a tablespoon of Almond Nut Butter or Peter Pan Honey Peanut Butter.

4. Tipping the Velvet was the last book I read in less than two weeks.

5. I am SO glad that I have the life I have now.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting the house back in order after the doors were installed, tomorrow my plans include Lady Vols Round Three game versus Ohio State and Sunday, I want to do something outside!

2. Running the half marathon and several 5 k events, well THAT's off my bucket list!

3. No, I really don't like TV, unless it is certain sporting events, certain movies or a few selected shows. I think there are MUCH better ways to amuse oneself or other activities that are much more enjoyable.

4. Love the person you have chosen with your ENTIRE heart and soul.

5. And then I decided to try something different.

Handmade Pay-It-Forward 2011

Okay, so I have been having a really rough week but today Amy made me cry happy tears. She posted this on her blog on the 27th of last month and I left her a comment not knowing that it was for me. She is a sly one like that. I am actually speechless. All I can manage at this moment is a very heartfelt thank you and I promise to get pictures of the card and the yarn up before the week ends.

Have a Cuppa Swap

Last week I received the contents shown above as part of the first swap for 2011. The name of the swap was Have A Cuppa. We had to include a cup, yarn (of course), a beverage of our partner's liking (coffee/tea/cocoa) and a surprise item. Heather did an AMAZING job!

The orange slices are one of my favorites and I have posted about them a gazillion times. I love the project bag and the matching smaller bag. The pair are perfect to take a project and all the necessary tools all in one matching manner. The cup is fab! I have already used some of the coffee in my espresso maker and then using the new cup I was ale to add my own froth and cinnamon and sugar. Divine I tell you. And the yarn....Malabrigo worsted in colorway Burgundy (41). It was tossed into the knitting bag last night for the heck of it as I went to the CLACK meeting and before I knew it I was working on the Birthday Cowl.

It is not the first time I have received Malabrigo (Amy has sent me some too....); however, it is the first time that I ever cast on with it. I didn't even have the hank wound into a cake. I just opened it up and started casting on the required 99 stitches. I love the way it feels so far and the color will look so rich with my black wool coat. If the pattern is correct, I should be able to make it in a day and with one skein. We shall see.

February Socks

The February Socks were a test knit for Amy. The pattern was wonderfully written and they were a very quick knit, even though it took me about eighteen days to finish them. I used the Regia Bamboo for them and they are so soft. I haven't worn them yet but they are washed and blocked and standing by.

The lace pattern was an easy four row repeat and I can see using it again in a scarf or perhaps a beret. I can feel a pattern adjustment coming or perhaps I'll just write my own. I HIGHLY recommend that you take a peak at the pattern and make a pair for yourself!

January Socks

So, the January Socks are called "Blame It On Jordan". The reason is very simple. I had Jordan over in late January and I had originally started a pair of socks with SWTC Tofutsies. The pattern called for you to cast on 189 stitches and over the next two rows decrease down to 69 stitches. I was very irked by this and had not gotten far at all. Jordan was showing me all of his projects and he insisted that I needed to make the Penispoopcakewaffle Sock.

I was fascinated so I gathered up the yarns and away I went. I kept saying over and over that it was all Jordan's fault that I was making socks with an object that I really have no desires towards. Obviously, it didn't stop me from making them. Megan loved them, as they were part of her latest birthday present.

Manic Monday

Well, it has been quite a while since I posted on a Monday. I know, so don't faint and don't worry. Everything is perfect! Life at Chez RubyRingz couldn't be any better.

A while ago (I'm too lazy to look for the post at the moment) I threatened to announce my Self-Imposed Sock of the Month selections for 2011. Okay, so it is February. January's Sock was the "Blame It On Jordan". I used the leftover white from a test knit for USS and the leftover yarn from the USS Knitting Contest. They were a birthday gift for Megan and she was so very pleased. Evidence below of the sock:

I have three inches of the leg, the cuff and the bind off and they are DONE!!! They are lovely and Amy's pattern was very well written. I'll have a better post about them later this week to and it will include the Ravelry link and the yarn info as well.

So, here is the grand master plan. I looked at my queue in Ravelry and it was QBLE (QueueBeyondLifeExpectancy). So, my logical decision was to tag every entry in the queue (starting with the socks) and thus my 2011 Sock of the Month was born. I also looked at my queue and I had the RPM's for myself already cast on (just one sock). Thus, they will be the March sock. I will take each pattern as it is in the queue and cast on. I will pair the yarn as I get ready to start the sock. I can't bring myself to stress about the yarn until then. Life is TOO short for me to stress. If some of the patterns are easy I may be able to squeak in a second pair but I will not stress about that either. One thing is certain: I will work my way through my queue and make myself some snazzy new socks this year.

Now having said that, I am also going to finish tagging all of my queue and then I plan on getting all the WIP's on the Project Page DONE!!!! That means that I should have a nice pile of FO's by the end of the year. Now, I have some special knitting to do for a few special friends that sent me emails earlier this year. Their items will be incorporated as I get all of this laid out. Most importantly, it will be stress free!

I'll have more pictures of the January and February socks later this week! Tomorrow I plan of getting together with the USS ladies and then with the gang at PAY....more later ya'll!

Valentine's Day Preview

So, SF and I agree that you should show the person you love how you truly feel ever day of the year and not just on one scheduled day. Having said that, I should also add that we do exchange cards but we limit all other gifts. We haven't exchanged gifts since this post and this post.

So, imagine my surprise when last Friday while we were at the Fossil store in the Town Center she purchased this watch. I had tried in on the week before and had mentioned that I wanted to get it for myself. When I laid it on the counter she gave the gal her card and told me it was for Valentine's Day. Sly one she is. So, turn about is fair play. She thought I was preoccupied with getting mine sized so she looked at a few as well. She selected this one, and when the gal was ready for payment I slid my card in her hand and insisted that I would get hers. Gift one to each other. It felt good and it wasn't expected so it was even more special.

Saturday we had appointments in Clear Lake to get our "hair did". I needed an overhaul and it was so cold....after we were done I managed to convince her to stop at Barnes and Noble. While I was browsing for a knitting book (shocked right?) she disappeared. This is what she disappeared for:

When she handed me the bag from Starbucks she simply said I needed what was inside to remind myself every day how she feels. I almost cried, I was feeling really girlie that day and that kind of mushy stuff always gets the tear factory started.

So, imagine my total surprise when the neighbor called this morning to tell me that a package had been delivered to her door via FedEx EARLY this morning and it was for me....

Now, I admit that I think roses are the sexiest flower ever. Running a close second are Calla Lilies and Irises. I also know that when we were dating SF freely admitted that she thought sending flowers was a HUGE waste of money. I tried to explain the ROI but I never for once thought she bought it. I told her how receiving them made me feel and she should consider that reason enough. All I can say is that she must have seen the ROI from the deliver last year when she brought me these:

I must admit, nothing is more intoxicating to me than the smell of roses, so when I discovered that there are 36 of these beauties in the vase, I was even more impressed. That would be a dozen for each year we have celebrated.....I can only imagine what else she has planned since she took the day off. I know that I have a special dinner planned for Sunday and a treat for her lunch box on Monday.

Take a moment to let all those you love how you feel, even if they aren't your Valentine, they need to know how you care. So, to all my friends, I sincerely do love each of you and want the very best for you and your families.

Last night I attended the book signing at Twisted Yarns. There is a little blurb about it here. Franklin Habit was in town last night and today and was hosted by the lovely ladies at Twisted Yarns. Yesterday was also National Chocolate Cake Day. WHO knew....

Wait back to last night. I was able to leave work at 3:45 PM so that I could head up to the store. I knew that traffic would/could get heavy since I would have to pass by the main arteries leading to the airport. I'm glad that I made that effort, as there ended up being an accident a few exits ahead of the one I needed and traffic was already building. I arrived at approximately 4:50 PM. Since the signing didn't start until 5:30 PM I knew I could get some browsing accomplished....cough, cough....you know yarn came home with me.

I brought home two skeins of ShiBui Sock in the 4013 colorway, one skein of Cascade Heritage in the Bark colorway (5609) and one skein of Punta Lace (Hand Paint - 100% Merino) in color HP66. I promise pictures will come too but I have not had time to get them today.

Franklin was wonderful. He is warm and witty. I was amazed with his steady autographing. He was concentrated and yet effortless all at the same time. I think I could have chatted with him and the ladies in attendance all evening. Thanks to Janet and her daughter for having their camera, I have this to share:

Yes, I did schooch down a bit because with heals on I felt too talk to stand up straight. And yes, you can tell that I HATE having my picture taken. Thanks again Janet! It was WONDERFUL to see you again and a pleasure to meet your daughter. Oh and Janet, who made the blue sweater ( it looks like a February Lady Sweater with long sleeves) and what yarn did they use? What a Wonderful Way to Start This Week!

Last Friday was such a long and dreary day that I didn't even stop at the mail boxes to see if we had received anything. It was also rainy and dreary on Saturday. The only time I left the house was to take Sassy to get her annual check-up. So, this morning after I was finished getting the oil changed and the fuel system cleaned, I stopped at the mail boxes. I was thrilled to find a soft-sided envelope there addressed to me from Wendy.

LOOK at what was inside:

Wendy did a lovely job on the scarf and I love the color. The bamboo yarn is soft and will be warm enough for the Houston Metro area climate. The cards are a lovely touch and the project bag will be PERFECT for the 2011 Self-Imposed Sock Club from my stash.

Just a QUICK post. I wanted to share a few links where you can test yourself to see what metabolic type you are. It is really a good thing to know, as it helps you learn how to eat in a manner better suited to your body's specific needs.

Now remember, I am not on a diet really. I am choosing foods that better suit my metabolic type to ensure that I can reduce cravings while eating foods that suit my needs. I know that carbs are higher on my needs than protein but I also know that I need protein in the morning to make my workouts more successful.

Simple things

Okay, so here at Chez Ruby Ringz we have been on an eating binge of sorts. SF has been off her diet since Thanksgiving and I have been bad on my eating plan too. Not to fret, as we have made it a goal for 2011 to eliminate as much processed foods as possible.

What does that translate to exactly? That means that we will be removing as many prepared foods as possible. We will be purchasing organic fruits and veggies, with as much as possible coming from the three closest local farmers' markets. We will be purchasing organic eggs and meats that have not been grain fed and pumped with growth hormones. We will also be mindful of our body types. SF is more of a protein metabolic person and I am a mixed type with my body needing more carbs than she does.

We have already moved from sugar to Stevia and have removed margarine and moved to organic butter. We are on the hunt for coconut oil to use in place of other cooking oils. Over the next moth, we will be eliminated all the snack foods in the pantry and replacing then with raw veggies and organic nut butters. The key is to remove as much hydrogenated oils and added sugars as possible. All of these changes come at a cost. The food is more expensive and we will need to spend a little more time in the kitchen preparing them but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting some of the meal plans that I have developed for my body type and also trying to post about our successes and failures. The gym will be a big friend for me, as I can shed more and tone faster by increasing my workouts. SF does not have that luxury with her work schedule, so it will be interesting to see if that plays a role in my success.

Today is the last day of random eating, so I plan on enjoying it and not having any regrets. Life is short, so enjoy and make the best of every day!

Rare Monday Sighting

Today was scheduled to be a day for me. The office was closed and I had only planned three things:

Take Eraser to the Vet
Get the car inspected (and washed)
Renew the registration for the car

That all sounds simple enough right? So it seemed to me as well. I got up with SF, amid all her protests that I should sleep in since it was my day off. I wouldn't hear of it because I wanted to keep the regular hours that I am accustomed to so I would be certain to be ready for bed at the correct time. Somehow, that first cup of coffee in the morning while she is getting herself ready is much more enjoyable. We have time to chat a wee bit and she is in a good mood.

After she left, I fixed my breakfast and started a load of laundry. I was only planning on washing what I needed for a three-day work week and holding off on the rest until this coming Friday. The load finished while I was cleaning out my knitting bag. It had become stuffed with WAY too many patterns and items I was not utilizing for any of the current projects. I promptly placed the clothes in the dryer and began to gather up the things I needed to accomplish the THREE things on my to do list. All very organized and efficient things to be doing. Dryer finishes, clothes get folded, hung or laid out to finish drying. Off I got to get showered, dressed and generally presentable. So far everything is going as planned.

Now anyone with a cat can tell you that what you wear to take said cat to a vet's visit is interesting. In Eraser's case, she sheds quite a bit more than normal when she gets nervous, so I never wear white or black, as her fur shows up far to easily on those colors. But today with the cold I wore dark green corduroy pants, my cowboy boots and a black log-sleeved tee shirt from the last Lone Star Rally. Seemed safe enough to me considering the weather and the fact that we were going to a feline specialist. So, no make up since cat fur sticks to that and makes my face itch. I scooped up the pet carrier and before Eraser knew it she was safely locked inside and we were headed out the door.

We arrive at the new vet, Feline Medical Center, with plenty of time to complete the new patient interview and history gathering phase. They have a wonderful front staff that instantly put me at ease and listened to Eraser's issues without any negative feedback. The vet herself was wonderful. My thanks to Dr. Julie Molitor would not be enough if we are able to get Eraser back to "normal". The "house" cat, Isabella tried to be nice to Eraser but she was not really in the mood to make new friends. Dr. Molitor patiently took more history from me and as we talked, we discovered some potential issues that we agreed merited closer investigation. Now, for those of you that don't deal with Her Highness on a regular basis, you will not understand the strength and aggression that she gains when she visits the Vet. She becomes extremely hard to handle and has drawn blood on more than one occasion.

This visit was no exception. The tried Feliway to make the exam easier but Eraser would have nothing to do with it. It calmed her for about three seconds. End of discussion. We placed a large bath towel sprayed with it over her and then the Vet and I worked in tandem to examine her. She only got bad one time and that was when the Vet needed to look at her teeth and gums. Blood was drawn from the Vet but not too much or too bad of a bite. We agreed that she needed to be sedated so that they could get a blood sample and a urine sample without stressing Eraser or anyone else out too much more. Thirty minutes later the visit was concluded. It took just over two hours to get all of it done. I'll spare you all the details, but I certainly hope that the test results tomorrow show us anything else that will help get her back on track.

Off to get the car inspected. Should be a snap since the car is only two years old, right?! Guess again my friends. I lug Eraser and my knitting inside and get comfortable. About thirty minutes later the tech comes in and advises me that the car cannot pass due to a faulty gas cap. Seriously, a faulty gas cap and I had to lug all the stuff back inside and call SF for the nearest Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer. She was wonderful. She located one about five minutes away and even verified that they had the correct part before I drove there. Another twenty two dollars later I was headed back to finish the inspection and get the car washed. Once again, I lug Eraser and the knitting inside. This time the car passes and in thirty minutes we are all finished and back in the car once again.

Eraser falls asleep from all the stress and the ride home is quiet. I drop her off and then go tot the laundry mat to wash all the cat bedding. Part of her "issue" causes this weekly trip. After that, which was not scheduled, I drop off the bedding and head to the Kroger's to renew the registration. I stand in line for forty-five minutes only to be informed that they no longer provide that service. A thousand horrid words wanted to escape my mouth but they didn't. I head back to the HEB and when I got to the Courtesy Booth there was no one in line. BONUS!!!! It took about five minutes and then I did a tiny bit of shopping and headed to the next stop. I had to go to PetSmart for some canned cat food, a second litter pan, a scoop and a special litter. I must really love this fluff ball. Finally done I got back home at 4:45 PM. I left home at 8:00 AM to start the day of three errands. Not exactly how I planned to spend my day off.

Starting this evening, Eraser and Sassy get 1/4 cup of dry food and two table spoons of wet food. Before I go to bed all food is to be removed. They are no longer free feeders. Ms. Eraser went up by almost two whole pounds from last year at this time. They will get food two times a day and that is that. They will need to learn to eat when the food is out. We should have all the test results back by the end of the week, so i am hopeful that we can get to the bottom of the issues and get them all resolved before anything else develops.

Okay, as you may have noticed I have been a bit reclusive as of late. It hasn't been because I have nothing to share. Quite the contrary. I have been super busy at work and most nights I barely have the energy to fix myself some dinner before I crash. While this is not all bad, it has consumed all of my energy for the last few weeks. Even my knitting has suffered. So, I sat down and had a chat with myself. Starting TODAY I will be making sure that I set aside time for myself again. Time to catch up on Ravelry. Time to "visit" FaceBook. Time to knit. Time to go to Panera on Monday to see the Clack gang. And time to catch up on all my friends blogs. I have a lot to catch up with, so bear with me if I comment on your old posts.

Ahhhh...so stuffed with turkey I almost forgot! Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate.

So...here we go!

1. Three things I must have on my Thanksgiving table: are ,ashed potatoes, cornbread dressing and green bean casserole (my deviled eggs for appetizers too).

2. The male relatives in my family tend to end up sacked out on the couch.

3. This is a year that I am thankful for more things than I can express, so thank you to all my friends, all my family and to my wonderful partner.

4. The day after Thanksgiving is the day we established to decorate the house for Christmas.

5. Oh, man, thankfully it's cold and rainy today, so we will stay home and enjoy each others company.

6. I want to perfect the art of showing how simple home-made things do mean more than expensive substitutes.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching some key NCAA Football games, tomorrow my plans include knitting with Upstairs Studio and going to the Sisters Morales show with SF, Chuck and Jana and Sunday, I want to go to a Rocket's game!

So...here we go!

1. Why does the traffic suck on the way home? You would think that people would drive correctly so that they could get home quicker. Go figure.

2. SF really needs to get her passport so that we can make plans to see the world.

3. Thank you for being there, caring and sharing. That goes out to each and every one of my fellow bloggers and those that I call my dear friends.

4. Thanksgiving really is my favorite holiday because I enjoy the cooking, the gathering of friends and family and the time to remember exactly how blessed I really am at this point in my life.

5. I am SO glad that this week is over. It has been an emotional rollercoaster, in a good way, but it has drained my energy.

6. We can be anything that we make up our minds to be.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to putting on the pj’s and chillin’, tomorrow my plans include cleaning house, going to Macy’s again for more slacks and a trip to Upstairs Studio to pick up my Third Place prize of a $50.00 gift certificate to the store (translation – I will be getting $50.00 worth of stuff to be determined) and pick up the socks and Sunday, I want to sleep in with SF and enjoy a day filled with whatever we decide to do together!

So...here we go!

1. Sometimes, a date on a "school night" is good for the relationship.

2. Creepy single guy at work hitting on me makes me mad because he assumes since he doesn't see a wedding/engagement ring that I automatically want him or need a man. Pisses me off and that is how I feel about the whole thing.

3. Small victories are best in my case.

4. The Six Thinking Hats method is very enlightening.

5. I keep meaning to take my leather coats to the cleaners but it hasn't happened so far and Winter is fast approaching.

6. I have not reached my weight and dress size goal ...yet.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting some much needed sleep, tomorrow my plans include attending the Lone Star Rally with SF and Sunday, I want to enjoy the day doing whatever we wake up feeling like we want to do, or not do, as the case may be!

Sock Yarn

I decided to break down and take pictures of the sock yarn portion of the stash. The first drawer has a few other goodies inside. There is some Nevada Sport yarn that will become a Chanel Jacket at some point this winter. It was purchased from a yarn store in the Galleria back in 1985 and I never found the time to make it. I have converted the pattern from two needles to a seamless one with three needle bind off for the shoulder seams. There is also two skeins of CashSoft in a wonderful blue that will become a scarf or cowl. There is also a skein of Artyarns Regal Silk that has been turned into a cake but has not decided what is wants to become. And one lone skein of Cathay remains to join the newest acquisition from Ellen for the Deep V Sweater by Erika Knight.

Drawer two contains a lot of Indie yarns. You may also see a few skeins from Malabrigo. There is one of their sock yarns in colorway 801 Boticelli Red. There is one of their lace yarns that was custom dyed for me in a swap. Three is a their chunky and for the life of me I can't recall the name of the colorway. I got it from Amy and still haven't done much more than fondle it. You may also notice the lone skein of Manos Del Uruguay in the middle of the pile. It too has not decided what to become and until it does, I just fondle it as well.

The funny part of all of this is that most of these beautiful skeins in the second drawer will become shawls, scarves or other pieces and not socks. What about your sock yarn stash? What does it look like? Flash pictures...but I can assure you that I will be instituting a self-imposed sock of the month club myself and will begin posting about that in December.

Happy Halloween to those who celebrate it!

1. While the cat's away I plan on hosting a knitting party for the CLACK family......, just don't tell her.

2. Pumpkin chili was fabuloso!

3. Children in costumes are fun to watch.

4. Tonight, there will be adult beverages and fast food for dinner when I get home from work or shopping or what have you.

5. This may seem odd, but I want to go to a drive-in and watch Alfred Hitchcock movies, and I don't like scary movies.

6. It's time for jeans and 3/4 length sleeves on the weekends and that seems like a fine idea to me!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching the WVU football game on ESPN2, tomorrow my plans include watching The University of Tennessee game at 11:00 AM CST while knitting (of course) and Sunday, I want to sleep in, eat steak and spend time with SF!

Scavener Hunt Swap Package - The Swap Stop

I was sufficiently spoiled with this package, the last one for 2010 for The Swap Stop group. I am already using the cute little bag. It has SWTC TOFUtsies inside for a pair of socks that I will be starting today. The magnet is already on the side of the fridge holding important stuff (coupons for food and dry cleaning). The yarn has been carefully placed into the drawer with all my other wonderful indie sock yarns that are longing to be used; soon my pretties, soon. The pattern has been added to the pending pattern pile. Almost as big as my queue in Ravelry....a bit frightening indeed but several may actually be duplicates of the Ravelry queue. The treats have not been opened yet, but that may not last all week....I feel a moment of weakness coming.

USS Sock Competition Entry

These are the Shur'tugal Socks by Alice Yu. The yarn was dyed by Lizzie at Upstairs Studio and is 45% Cashmere/45% Superwash Merino/10% Nylon. It was a joy to knit and I have about 125 yards remaining from the skein. I want to make fingerless mitts using the same pattern with it bit I may have to add some other color to have enough yarn to make them. They will be on display at the store until November 1st. At that time First and Second place will be announced. First place gets a set of Addi Lace Click needles and a skein of sock yarn. Second place gets a $100 gift certificate to the store. I really want second place....and will trade first with second if I am fortunate enough to win....just sayin....

I can't wait to have them back and wear them....

1. One of my strongest beliefs is everything happens for a reason.

2. The importance of finishing my degree has become huge!

3. The sky is cloudy with a threat of rain and wind and cold, so (if this were a reality in Texas) I can snuggle up with SF, watch TV and knit.

4. The love of friends and family is comforting to me.

5. I always thought I'd be infamous like my relatives, some day in the future that is.

6. I was feeling emotional and other twinges and then I went outside to look at the full moon.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to watching the Rangers beat that team from NY, tomorrow my plans include knitting and college football (Battle of the Piney Woods) and Sunday, I want to ride the motorcycle and spend quality couple time with SF!

A special message, today is Stephanie's 27th birthday. I will be calling her around 5 PM to wish her Happy Birthday. She has enriched my life and touched everyone she has come in contact with. Bonus, she has given me my first grand child. I love you Stephanie!

Thoughts on Thursday

This my friends is the 2011 Chevy Camero - Convertible Edition. This particular picture is from the Neiman Marcus Catalog. They had 100 of them up for sale for $75,000.00 and they were all gone within THREE minutes. If I had the money I would have grabbed one for SF. She is a huge Camero fan and had one back in the day. She has been lusting after this ever since she knew that they were back in production. With the convertible edition on the market, rest assured that she will be watching the chat boards and the trade mags to see what everyone has to say about the new version. I can say that this may be in our garage within the next two years.

This is the latest version of the Dodge Challenger. The color is Furious Fuchsia. I saw this yesterday while I was having the oil changed and the tires rotated on the Caliber. I think it is one of the oddest colors I have seen in a while. A salesman asked my opinion and I told him it was Butt Ass Ugly and it looked like something one would find in a Barbie catalog. He acted like it was a personal affront to him. I don't really give a rat's ass. I would never pay the 46K for a car that color EVER! Does that look like a color that a muscle car should be available in? I think not. Muscle cars should look tough and fuchsia does not scream "I am a muscle car" now does it?

Eraser wants me to share this story with everyone as well. She has been a little out of sorts herself the last few days; however, the pumpkin seems to have worked magic on her and all is right with the world. She wants me to measure her but I know that she is not anywhere near a record holder. I will acquiesce and measure her just to avoid future issues.

Fall equals crock pot cooking to me and I have pulled out all my recipes and have been deciding what to make next. The beef stew is amazing. I'm thinking that I was to make a chicken dish next. I'm thinking that I want Chicken and Dressing. I'm also considering pork chops (thick cut) slow cooked in cream of mushroom soup and served over rice too. I'm also thinking about a cake in a coffee mug as a way to make just enough to handle my sweet tooth. I found this recipe and I may try it tonight.

I have been trying to get knitting finished up so that I will not get distracted in November for National Novel Writing Month. I have ten more days to get as much done as possible. I know I will get a lot done tomorrow. I have an afternoon and the evening, while I watch the Rangers beat that team from NY. As for Saturday, I'll be dropping off my socks at Upstairs Studio for the contest. After that, I'll be parked in front of the TV watching college football. Sunday, we'll have to see what games are on and what house work actually needs to be accomplished.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program....

Tuesday Temptations

I bet you wonder where my twisted brain is going now....

The first three pictures are of my favorite indulgences at the moment and I blame all three on SF. She knows I have a HUGE sweet tooth and when she goes to the grocery store she comes home with something special for me. I love her for that but it means harder work to keep them from ending up on my mid-section or hips.

The last one is my all time favorite actress, not really, but she is the only one I would consider cheating with if I was that kind of person....seriously, she is brilliantly intelligent, in excellent physical condition and is my age. That means she is older than my stretch marks and that makes her eligible on the dating scale. I love her smile and her eyes.

And what are all these? Pieces that I would like to add to my collection. Some are blue diamonds. Some are Sapphires. Some are Rubies. Some are black diamonds. Some are green amethyst. Some are chocolate pearls. I think that I deserve some more bling and these are calling to me in very loud voices.

At this very moment, there is beef stew cooking in my crock pot. It is loaded with turnips, parsnips, carrots, baby red potatoes, onions and celery. Plus the perfect beef and spices. I'll be making cornbread as soon as I get home. After I eat, I'll be finishing the secret knitting so that I can get it gifted this week. That means that I'll be able to post pictures this week of the socks and this item. I may even be close to being able to get a good shot of the shawl too.
